China granite monument-Anatomy of a monument

Remember that a monument should be as individual as the person it honours. This guide is only a sample of what our monumental masons can produce for you. If you have your own ideas or specific requirements we are happy to explore those with you.

Virtually all monuments are built using the same basic construction technique by our monumental masons. Cut from slabs of granite in various thicknesses, the individual components are then polished, inscriptions are then sandblasted and gilded before being transported and assembled on site using either cement, silicon or epoxy resins.

The illustration to the right shows the individual components that are assembled together to create a monument. Each of these components can be customised to suit an individual’s needs and as in some cases can be deleted altogether. As is with the Ashlar, which is generally only required by choice or if stipulated by the cemetery.

There are a myriad of options available for each component, but in particular the headstone, slab and front stone. Various stones can be mixed together with great effect to create truly unique monuments. All components are available in a variety of stone finishes.

Granite is impervious to all weather conditions and as such endure wide ranges of extremes in dryness and moisture as well as hot or cold climates. It can also withstand acid rain pollution without any noticeable change over thousands of years. This makes granite the most suitable choice of stone for gravestones and memorial plaques.
