Refining a Traditionally Unrefined Stone:

We always admired slate for its wild color paletteand rustic unrefined finish, but while creating the unexpected, changes neededto be made. First, the materials needed to be blended and set in beautifulcolor ways.

Next, the finishes needed to be explored and a honedsurface completely changed the look and feel of almost every slate color. Whenused in a mosaic, the honed surface became more architectural.

Parts of this series retain their natural state,where the cleft finish is straight cut, the textural surface creates a Zen-likefeel. The tumbled finishes add another element to the already cleft surface,but soften the overall effect.
